Kelly Dee is the Community Outreach Coordinator and the right hand of Garfield Farm. She is currently working on her Masters in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh with a special interest in urban social justice issues. In her work with the farm, she is seeking to build pathways to connect the neighborhood with redeeming the land through urban farming, and providing opportunities to serve the needs of the community and work towards racial reconciliation.
Rev. John Creasy is the Associate Pastor at The Open Door Church, a missional church community that worships at the Union Project in Highland Park. It was John who pushed to get the church involved in urban farming as a form of missional engagement in the Garfield community. John is a crazy environmentalist who loves growing hot peppers in the garden. Read John’s blog at http://johncreasy.blogspot.com and the Open Door Church’s site at http://www.pghopendoor.org

John- Thanks so much for our meeting yesterday. Can you tell me if there is a project that youth could come work on at the garden sometime in June? I would like to go to the youth pastors and say- ‘this needs to be done, can you take a group of the youth to do this?’ Maybe getting rid of the not-weed?
Thanks again, Janet (Westminster)
John,
I’m coming with friends from Southminster Presby on Wednesday. Was able to pick up 6 flats of very miscellaneous veggie and herb plants FOR FREE from the Parkside Plus store in Bethel Park. Sure hope you can use them/find room for them!
See you Wednesday,
Rebecca
